Behind the Scenes: Our Fixer Upper Before & After! | Melissa Colson

Behind the Scenes: Our Fixer Upper Before & After!

We are finally finished! After a whirlwind renovation, we put our fixer upper on the market and moved into our new dream home...just in time to be quarantined. But we didn't mind it all that much at first. It allowed us to unplug for a little while and focus on settling into our new place. After the draining process of home-selling/buying/moving it was wonderful to finally be able to take a breath.

FOCUS: My Word of Intention for 2020 | Melissa Colson

FOCUS: My Word of Intention for 2020

Each year, I pick a word of intention. Something I'll use throughout the year to remind myself of my goals and the mindset I want to maintain. This year, I chose the word FOCUS. I recently finished Marie Forleo's book, Everything is Figureoutable. She described herself as a "multi-passionate entrepreneur." Yep, I thought...that's me! I'm passionate about a lot of things, which is wonderful. But I need the reminder that I can't do all the things well...at least not at the same time!

Sketches from Scotland

Well I'm back from my trip to Scotland! I finished going through my sketches and thousands (yes, literally thousands) of pictures and I wanted to share a few with you. I was in awe of the detailed architecture (including a few Outlander sites) as well as the breathtaking scenery.

Print of the Week: Les Petits Gateaux Bakery

Painted in a loose, informal style with a touch of pen and ink to accentuate the details, the charm and je ne sais quoi of Paris shines through. I used vibrant pops of color to evoke a feeling of light and movement.

Print of the Week, Restaurant Jadis

In a part of Paris affectionately called the “Parisian’s Paris”, there is a charming little bistro tucked away from the typical tourist haunts. Restaurant Jadis captures the very essence of Parisian culture, and is needless to say a favorite of the locals.

Print of the Week: Algodon Mansion

This week’s Print of the Week is one of my personal favorites. Some structures seem perfectly suited to be the subject matter for an architectural drawing, and Algodon Mansion certainly falls into this category.

Print of the Week: Bourdon House

If there was ever a structure that possessed quintessentially British style, it would be Bourdon House on London's Davies Street. Formerly the residence of the Duke of Westminster, this Georgian mansion is now the retail home for luxury menswear company, Alfred Dunhill.
